Conde de Mértola Colheita

Conde de Mértola Reserva

Tasting notes

  • An exceptional organic wine with a ruby colour and an intense aroma.
  • Aroma of red fruits with suggestions of blueberry, redcurrant and raspberry and slight notes of spices and roasting.
  • Smooth and silky taste, a fine body with a fruity flavour and a long finish.
  • Floral and balsamic notes are evident, giving elegance and freshness to the wine.
  • Complex and elegant on the palate.
  • The metallic colour of the label is an obvious allusion to the subsoil of the vineyard and its composition, rich in copper, gold and silver pyrites
  • For our Reserva batches, the aging of the wine occurs in French oak barrels, for an even more exclusive and limited production.

The Terroir

The vineyard is located in Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana – a wildlife reserve, with no environmental or industrial pollution whatsoever and therefore, a truly unique position for quality.

Under the vineyard, the subsoils are made essentially up of pyrite, but also copper, gold, silver and sulphur, crossed by the Iberian Pyrite Belt. This rich subsoil, allows the roots of the vineyard to grow without bacteria, fungi or other pathogens.

Organic and Vegan Wine

Organic and vegan vineyards exclude the use of artificial chemicals on soil and plants, replaced by various herbs and mineral additives as compost alternatives.

This approach to ecological biodynamic agriculture was developed by Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) and was the first of the organic agricultural movements at the beginning of the 20th century.
